Do young children need mobile phones

I think mobile phones are good and useful these days specially for young children to keep in contact with their parents but however some teenager’s mess about and call emergency such as 999 just to have a laugh when there holding up lines for genuine emergency calls.

My opinion that young children should have mobile phones cause if I was a parent I want to have contact with my child for health and safety reasons. But am going to split this debate into two sections 5-11 and 11-16 year olds. Children between 5-11years old do not need a mobile to use this is cause they either with their parent or at school.

However I think that children between 11-16 years old moving into secondary school  need a mobile phone this is because they will going school on there own. Parents and guardians will worry about them so it allows them to use the mobile phone to let them know that their safe and in school. They will be able to give their parents a call if they’re going to be home late. This also allows your children to have contact outside school with his class mates.

What are the benefits of giving a mobile phone to your kids?

·         There is no doubt that mobile phones provides instant contact with your kids

·         Can be used in emergencies

·         Develop some kind of independence at an early age

·         It provides some sense of privacy to the kids

Disadvantages

·         Young children that have high tech mobile phones cannot pay for the bills leaving their parents to pay for it

·         It can cause brain tumour by them constantly being on the phone

·         Children can get bullied for the kind of phone they have

·         Get stolen by a group or people older than them

What are the risks when using mobile phones?

-Contact: some children have been sexually harassed after contact through mobile phone, and bullying via the mobile phone is common. Children are often reluctant to discuss such problems.

-Theft: expensive mobile handsets are often stolen, and children may be mugged or physically attacked for their handsets.

-Spam: Most children with mobile phones have received some form of SMS spam. Some of these services are charged at a premium rate (i.e. a surcharge) and may be difficult to stop.

- Photographs and videos: many mobile phones now include cameras. Photos and videos are often taken without permission and forwarded to friends or websites (see below).

-Supervision: children normally use mobile phones when they are alone, so it is much more difficult for parents to monitor

-Advertising and sales pressure: children may receive advertising content via SMS, and some services for children allow them to pay for goods using their phone credit.

-Health issues: evidence is inconclusive, but some people fear that prolonged use of mobile phones may give rise to health concerns

Facts

Young children these days want to follow their parents or their friends by having the latest phone out or a phone if they don’t have one, teenagers nowadays are spoilt and want everything not thinking of the age it’s provided for.
